LOBBY DAY
Hundreds of AFSCME members had their voices heard loud and clear in the statehouse rotunda on February 5th. Chanting "safety first!" and "no more cuts!" we sent a message to legislators and the governor that front line safety in state government has reached a crisis. As part of the Action day, members met with their legislators telling them to provide state workers with the tools they need to do their job effectively and safely. Probation and Parole Officer Joshua Olds, Social Worker Kimberly Weathers-Murphy and Corrections Officer Chris Valandingham spoke to their fellow workers at the rally and led them to the Govenor's office. There, we delivered more than a thousand postcards from their fellow state employees calling on the governor to maintain funding for state worker safety and negotiate with AFSCME to reach a union agreement. Newspaper, radio and television news coverage was on hand to get the story.
